Indoor track results from weekend invitationals

At the Bison Open hosted by Bucknell over the weekend, Shippensburg freshman James Wilson (Ephrata) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash and freshman Mike Murphy (Cocalico) advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles ... also at the Bison Open, Millersville sophomore Adam Malloy (Ephrata) placed third as part of the 4x400-meter relay team, sophomore Kelvin Reyes (Cedar Crest) finished eighth in the 60-meter dash, and freshman Priscilla Jennings (Solanco) placed sixth in the mile ... at the F&M Invitational on Friday, Juniata freshman Kelsey Buffenmeyer (Donegal) earned a first-place finish in the long jump and added a second-place effort in the high jump ... also at the F&M meet, Dickinson College senior Abbey Fergusson (Hempfield) and freshman Darcy McDonald (Warwick) finished second and third, respectively, in the mile and sophomore Katie Creme (Lancaster Catholic) claimed the 55-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.56 ... at the LVC Invitational Saturday, first-place finishers included LVC freshman Andy Zinkan (Ephrata) in the shot put and junior Nick Orfanella (Ephrata)in the weight throw. Kutztown sophomore Ashley Singer (Warwick) set a new school record in the 500 free, and also won the 200 free, in a victory over Shippensburg on Saturday. Sophomore Sean Bonifas (Hempfield) won the 200 free and 100 breast and finished second in the 100 free.

Saint Francis University sophomore Jonathan Sherrick (Hempfield) tallied seven kills and seven blocks as the Red Flash defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at George Mason's Patriot Games on Friday ... Juniata College senior Cordt Withum (Penn Manor) lead his team with five blocks in a win over New York University today ... Penn State sophomore Luke Murray (Hempfield) collected 12 assists, and redshirt freshman Ryan Sweitzer (Conestoga Valley) had a career-high three blocks, as the Lions downed NYU on Friday.

Lafayette senior Robert Gates (Elizabethtown) won the 200 free relay and finished third in both the 500 and 1650 free. For Rider, sophomore Becky Sandbower (Manheim Twp) placed fourth in the 500 free and junior Ryan Mitten (Manheim Twp) took fifth in the 100 fly.

Records fall at LVC pool

Lebanon Valley College senior Isaac Greene (Elizabethtown) and freshman Lauren Horst (Cedar Crest) had big nights in the pool against Arcadia Tuesday. Greene posted first-place finishes while resetting his own school records in both the 100-meter butterfly (1:03.69) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:31.76). Horst broke a school record that had stood since 1993 in the 200-meter freestyle, finishing second in 2:23.69. She also won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:19.20.

Norris dashes to near-record times

At the Penn State Women's Open this past weekend, Mount Saint Mary's senior Shannon Norris (Warwick) finished fifth in the 200m dash (25.41), just missing a school record by 0.01 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 57.40s, which places her fifth on the school's all-time list.

Several LL League swim alumni met in the lanes at the Shippensburg v. Bloomsburg dual meet on Saturday. For Ship, freshman Lauren Galbraith (Cedar Crest) placed first in the 400 medley and 400 free relays, freshman Jason Roth (Cocalico) finished second in the 400 medley relay, and freshman Whitney Moose (Warwick) placed third in the 400 free relay. For Bloom, sophomore Lauren Sterkenberg (Hempfield) finished second in the 400 medley relay and third in the 200 butterfly, sophomore Courtney Dean (Hempfield) placed third in the 50 freestyle, fourth in the 100 freestyle and second in the 400 free relay, and freshman Josh Chandler (Donegal) placed third in the 400 medley relay, second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 200 back.

Juniata freshman Kelsey Buffenmeyer (Donegal) earned three separate top-eight finishes at the Susquehanna Orange & Maroon Classic this weekend. She won the high jump with a leap of 5’ 4”, earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump, and placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles.

Messiah's Fisher is NCAA DIII Field Hockey Player of the Year

Messiah College senior forward Aftan Fisher (Pequea Valley) was named the 2005 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Player of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Fisher has been a First Team All-American for three consecutive years and was named the Commonwealth Conference player of the year this past season. The four-time All-American finishes her career ranked second on the all-time Messiah points list (226), second on the career assist chart (58) and third in career goals (84).

Shannon Norris part of record-setting 4x55 relay team

Mount St. Mary's senior Shannon Norris (Warwick) was a member of the 4x55m shuttle hurdle relay team that broke a 23-year-old Penn State record as well as the meet record with a mark of 32.15 seconds at the Penn State Relays last weekend.

Swimmers dive back into action at Georgia, Ursinus

University of Georgia junior Cameron Hollinger (Penn Manor) placed second in 400 medley relay, third in the 50 freestyle and third in the 400 free relay in a meet against SEC foe Kentucky on Friday ... Ursinus College senior Andrew Will (Warwick) won the 200 IM and the 500 free in a win over Arcadia, while sophomore Allison Stouch (Lancaster Catholic) won the 1000 free and 100 fly events.

Stratton, Anderson star in Pitt intra-squad track meet

At Pitt's Blue and Gold Intersquad indoor track meet in December, freshman James Stratton (Conestoga Valley) ran a 1:26.96 in the 600 meters while senior Chris Anderson (Manheim Township) placed first in the 50-yard dash with a time of 5.30 seconds and in the 300 meters with a time of 34.82 seconds.

Susquehanna University sophomore Brad Okonak (Lebanon) sunk four three-pointers and scored a career-high 16 points in 67-62 non-conference win over Catholic University on Wednesday. He shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the second half, including back-to-back threes ... Randolph-Macon College sophomore forward Jeremy Dixon (Hempfield) scored seven points in a 70-63 victory over Bridgewater College on Wednesday ... LVC's Enoch hits season highs

Lebanon Valley College freshman guard Kyle Enoch (Hempfield) scored a season-high 19 points as LVC downed Ferrum College 75-62 in the first round of the Roanoke College Tournament Tuesday. Enoch shot 7-for-10 from the field, was 3-for-6 from three-point range, and tied season-highs with seven rebounds and four steals.

Former Hempfield stars play in holiday b-ball tourneys

Shippensburg University freshman guard Phylicia Bessick (Hempfield) scored 13 points in a 81-60 loss to University of Charleston (WV) in game three of the Red Roof Classic. According to Ship's athletic department, Bessick has now reached double figures in eight out of 11 games in her first collegiate season ... Randolph-Macon College sophomore Jeremy Dixon (Hempfield) scored four points in a consolation-round win over Kenyon College this past weekend in the Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic.
