Kinney on KU honor roll for volleyball

In volleyball, Kutztown sophomore Austin Kinney (Hempfield) recorded 88 assists, 11 service aces and 31 digs in three games last week and was selected to the Golden Bear Athletic Honor Roll.

Shippensburg University's women's soccer team won its season-opening game against Edinboro with second-half goals by freshman midfielder Rachael Jeffrey (Annville-Cleona) and sophomore defender Kellye Von Stetten (Hempfield). The former LL'ers are two of 22 freshmen and sophomores on the Lady Raider roster this season.

Dickinson's Harker receives Goldwater scholarship

Dickinson College senior field hockey player Becky Harker (Ephrata) was awarded a prestigious Goldwater scholarship by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Harker started for the Red Devils as a defender in her first two seasons, but missed last year while recovering from an injury.

Bonifas, Singer are MVPs at KU

Kutztown University rising juniors Sean Bonifas (Hempfield) and Ashley Singer (Warwick) have been honored as the men's swimming and women's swimming team season MVPs, respectively. Bonifas finished third in the 100 breast at the PSAC Championships, earning All-PSAC honors. He also placed ninth at PSACs in the 200 breast and helped five relays earn points. Singer broke her previous records for KU in the 200 and 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. She earned All-PSAC honors in the 500 free and 200 free, placing second and setting school records in both events, and also anchored the school-record setting 800 free relay.
