Sherrick and SFU advance to eastern volleyball championship

Saint Francis University sophomore Jonathan Sherrick (Hempfield) recorded 11 kills and 3 blocks as the Red Flash defeated 12th-ranked George Mason yesterday to advance to the EIVA championship match against Penn State.

IUP track open features Farnsworth, Buffenmyer

Indiana University of Pennsylvania senior Katie Farnsworth (Garden Spot) won the 1500m in 4:46.41 at the IUP Open held on Saturday. Juniata College freshman Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal) earned a first-place finish in the high jump at 5'03".

Buffenmyer ties Juniata jump record

At the non-scored Bucknell Bison Open last Friday and Saturday, Juniata College freshman Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal) tied for first place in the high jump with a height of 5’ 5”, which also tied the Juniata record set in 1994. Buffenmyer also finished fifth in the long jump, recording a best effort of 18’1½”.

Vargo is tennis player of year in Commonwealth Conference

Lebanon Valley College junior Erik Vargo (Lancaster Catholic) has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-Commonwealth Conference first team. It was the third time that Vargo was named to the all-Commonwealth team, after earning first-team recognition last year and second-team accolades as a freshman. In Commonwealth Conference matches, Vargo was 6-0 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles action.

LVC's Roberts is Pitcher of Week in softball

Lebanon Valley College junior Jenn Roberts (Hempfield) has been named the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Week. For the season, Roberts is 6-2 with a 1.54 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings. She has tossed three shutouts, and opponents are batting .189 against her. Roberts is third in the Commonwealth Conference in opponents batting average, tied for fourth in strikeouts, fifth in ERA, and tied for eighth in wins. At the plate, she is third on the team with 12 RBIs, and her two home runs are tied for the team lead.

4 LVC swimmers on all-academic team

The following former LL Leaguers and current Lebanon Valley College swimmers have been named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) Winter All-Academic Team: Sophomore Tristan Bostock (Lancaster Country Day), junior Kristopher Gazsi (Warwick) and junior Matt Woods (Cocalico) from LVC’s men’s team and sophomore Kiera Andersen (Lancaster Mennonite) from the women’s squad.

Testa earns DII hoops honors

Millersville University junior guard Greg Testa (Lancaster Catholic) has earned honorable mention honors on the NCAA Division II Bulletin All-America men’s basketball team. Testa led Millersville in scoring (19.1 points per game), field goals made (179), 3-point field goals made (73), free throws made (100), free-throw percentage (.763), assists (113) and steals (65).
