CC, PSAC indoor track championships feature area athletes

At the Centennial Conference Indoor Track Championships, Dickinson senior Abbey Fergusson (Hempfield) and freshman Darcy McDonald (Warwick) placed second and third, respectively, in the 3000 meters, while sophomore Katie Creme (Lancaster Catholic) finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles and 400 meters, and fourth in the 200.

At the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships, Bucknell sophomore John Peterman (Penn Manor) finished 2nd in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, 8th in the 50 free, 11th in the 100 free and 12th in the 200 free.

Enoch is Commonwealth Rookie of the Year

Lebanon Valley College freshman Kyle Enoch (Hempfield) was named Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year. Starting 21 games at point guard, Enoch led LVC in assists, steals and free-throw percentage, was sixth on the team in scoring, and was fourth in three-pointers made. Enoch is currently eighth in the Commonwealth in assists and 10th in steals.

Kentucky's Way leads way in SEC

University of Kentucky junior Georgeanne Way (Warwick) ran the best meet of her career at the Iowa State Classic last weekend, falling well below the NCAA provisional standard with a personal-best 2:06.49 in the 800. Way’s mark ranks her ninth nationally, first in the SEC, and second all-time indoors at UK. Way also owns UK’s fastest mile time on the season (4:51.38, fifth SEC).

Norris on All-NEC team, Orfanella wins two events, Murphy ties record

Mount St. Mary's senior Shannon Norris (Warwick) has been named to the Second Team All-Northeast Conference indoor track and field team in the 60-meter hurdles.

Former Hempfield teammates square off in PSU v. SFU volleyball

In a Penn State vs. Saint Francis University men's volleyball match last Friday, PSU sophomore Luke Murray (Hempfield) scored a career-high 49 assists and added one kill ace and a block while SFU sophomore Jonathan Sherrick (Hempfield) tallied six kills. PSU defeated SFU 3-0.

Singer is KU's Athlete of the Week

Kutztown University sophomore Ashley Singer (Warwick) was named the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Singer set school records in the 200 (1:55.72) and 500 (5:09.20) free at the PSAC Swimming & Diving Championships over the weekend. She was also part of the 800-free relay team that also set a new school record (7:55.15).

Hanson is Athlete of Week at Juniata

Senior Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic) was named Swimming Athlete of the Week at Juniata College for her performance in the 50, 100 and 200 free events at the MAC Championships last weekend. Hanson swam to a career-best 4th place in the 50 free, finished 5th in the 100 and 9th in the 200, and recorded a team-high in points for the conference meet.

Georgia junior Cameron Hollinger (Penn Manor) qualified for the A final and placed 4th overall in the 50 free during day two of the SEC Swimming Championships. He picked up another 4th-place finish as part of the 200 free relay team. On the first day of competition, Hollinger placed 4th in the 200 medley relay, while Tennessee junior Andrew Engle (Manheim Central) finished in 2nd.

MAAC, PSAC swim championships underway

Rider University junior Ryan Mitten (Manheim Twp.) placed seventh in the A finals of the 200 IM and was part of the third-place 400 medley relay team on the first day of the 2006 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

On day two of the PSAC Swimming Championships: In the 200 free relay, Bloomsburg junior Courtney Dean (Hempfield) placed third, Lock Haven junior Becca Rhoades (Penn Manor) finished seventh and Kutztown sophomore Sean Bonifas (Hempfield) placed sixth. Testa is PSAC Player of the Week

Millersville junior guard Greg Testa (Lancaster Catholic) was named the PSAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week (Eastern Division). Testa averaged 29.0 points per game while nailing 51.7% (30-58) of his shots and 12 of 24 from behind the 3-point arc. Twice he scored over 30 points, including a 35-point effort against Mansfield, a game in which he went over the 1,000-point career milestone.

At the Dickinson Valentine Meet on Saturday, Dickinson senior Abbey Fergusson (Hempfield) placed first in the 3000 meters in a time of 10:37.46, followed by second-place finisher freshman Darcy McDonald (Warwick). Sophomore Katie Creme (Lancaster Catholic) won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.99 and placed third in the long jump with a distance of 15'-9.5".

Juniata junior Steve Yeager (Hempfield) had a game-high 18 digs in a 3-2 loss to Princeton on Saturday. In a winning match on Friday against Stevens Tech, senior Cordt Withum (Penn Manor) recorded seven blocks.

MAC swim champs: updated 2/12 with day-two results

In day two of the MAC swimming chamionships, the B Final of the 200 free featured three former LL swimmers going head to head. Juniata senior Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic) placed 9th, Lycoming freshman Amy Bentz (Elizabethtown) finished 12th, and LVC freshman Lauren Horst (Cedar Crest) took 15th.

In the first day of the MAC swimming championships Friday, Juniata senior Amy Hanson (Lancaster Catholic) competed in the A final of the 50 free and finished in fifth place while Widener freshman Matt Kline (Hempfield) qualified for the B final of the 200 IM, placing 15th overall.

Testa hits 1000-point career mark for Millersville

Scoring a career-high 35 points in a 83-72 victory over Mansfield on Monday, Millersville University junior Greg Testa (Lancaster Catholic) became the Marauders 33rd player to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Testa shot 11 for 17 from the floor, including five 3-pointers.

Orfanella sets weight-throw record, again

Lebanon Valley College junior Nick Orfanella (Ephrata) placed third and was the top Division III finisher in the weight throw at the Dick DeShriver Invitational, hosted by East Stroudsburg University, on Sunday. Orfanella bettered his own school record for the second time this season after throwing the ball and chain 51-1½, over two feet better than his previous record.
